1. The Spice Route
Early Morning departure from Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, or the Dead Sea. We drive to the Negev Desert and travel along the ancient Nabatean Spice Route, a route once used by caravans of camels to transport the
treasures of the east from Petra to the ports of the Mediterranean coast.
While travelling through wild desert scenery we'll see ancient wayside inns, Roman guardians stations and water reservoirs all thousands of years old, helping us to reconstruct the lives of the historical Nabatian leaders of the spice caravans.
We'll stop for a Bedouin lunch in the desert. Returning to the hotel late evening.
2. The Negev Craters (Makhtesh)
Early Morning departure from Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, or the Dead Sea.
This is a drive to the Negev Desert that focuses specifically on the unique natural phenomena of the desert craters.
We'll visit the Big Crater (Makhtesh Gadol) as well as the small crater (Makhtesh Katan) where we'll collect the beautiful multicolored sand covering its surface.
Then will take the steep descent of Ma'ale Akrabim down to the wilderness of Zin, where we will finally reach a desert oasis boasting a grove of date palms and running water to accompany our desert lunch. Returning to the hotel late evening.
3. In The Footsteps of the Smugglers *This trip takes place in the Eilat area. So departure is from Eilat (or from any other place
part a trip lasting multiple days). Drive from Eilat through the winding dry river bed of Nahal Shlomo passing exquisitely colored Granite Mountains. We'll then ascend to the peak of "Har Yehohash", over looking the three countries of Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia followed by a drive through Nahal Betamim to Nahal Etek, the ancient Smugglers' route connecting Egypt and Jordan.
The route continues through wild and mountainous desert scenery and finishes at the Etek canyon, where we'll begin our hike to rain water pools serving desert nomads of the area for thousands of years. We'll then enter the wide river bed of Nahal Raham and finish at Be'er Ora. From here we'll drive back to Eilat.
